SYMBOLS OF THE SKY AND EARTH

In the last few months, Luis has created a series of works in acrylic on paper, which show his devotion to the metaphysical theme, emphasizing the connection between earth and universe, and his sensitivity to the effective use of the beauty of colour.

This combination makes the paintings as strong in their messages as in their expressiveness. The symbols are objects, human beings and centaurs, who come out of the darkness or water into the light to say: Here I am - What is my destiny? This question is the same for humans as for objects. Life is fated, the aim unknown, but everything has its destiny.

Luis always places his objects in the centre of the paintings so that the eye absorbs them easily and their intensity allows contemplation and the observer's own explanations.

To express his feelings the artist has chosen two ways. Some of his works are composed like still-lives; the objects and their environment are grown stiff, but they are mysterious, poetic, fascinating and full of tension. Others are full of light, movement, colour and magic. In all of them you can discover depth and various possibilities of interpretation. The paintings also invite you to remember your history, your tradition, the old myths and the significance of religious symbols. Life is a gift and should be taken as that.

The unity of the work is amazing, because there is no contradiction. The paintings also reflect the artist's desire to be in harmony, with the woman as his spirit, lover and friend but often the man looks desperate and shy.

At first viewing most of the paintings appear simple but all of them are telling a story and it might be the story of your own dream.

The message as I understood it is to support and love each other, to put the pieces of the world together, to enjoy the beauty of life without ignoring our past or future.
